    What an important article!

It’s heartening to see that so many clothing companies offer incentives to recycle old clothes.  What a wonderfully long list!

We have WAY TOO MUCH stuff in this culture.  The manager of our local thrift store told me that they bundle up 40,000 pounds of clothing every month to send off to China, where it will be re-cycled into…whatever.  40,000 pounds.  And this is a low population area, too.  It’s impossible to even imagine how that translates across the whole continent.  Mind boggling.

But thank you, for bringing this important topic to the conversation.  We all need to start being a LOT less wasteful.

    xxoo,

    Anna

Hi Anna, It’s great to hear that your local thrift store bundles what they can’t resell and sends it to be recycled! It’s amazing that they have 40,000 pounds of used clothing each month to recycle!!

What a great incentive for everybody to be recycling their clothes and shoes that they no longer require. With less than 10% of clothing being recycled, and most of it ending up in landfill, recycling and upcycling is an awesome way in which to help the environment.

Donating to a charity shop has always been one of my favourite things as well, if the clothing is still good enough to be used again. It is great that there are so many brands that are offering recycling, as well as outlets like Thredup. Thank you for sharing this vey helpful resource.

These small steps can add up to a big impact if enough companies and individuals make recycling clothes and textiles a priority. Thank you for helping by donating to your local charities!

    Hello Alyce.

Thank you for sharing this info with me. This will be incredibly useful because I personally have lots and lots of clothes i get rid of every month, but i never knew about this concept. It’s genius! I especially have a lot of Adidas apparel and Nike apparel so hopefully they offer great rewards! I also sometimes sell old branded clothes on Mercari, but they don’t always sell so this is great Thank you!

    • Alyce says:

Hi Lorenz, You may have some luck getting rewards by recycling through Adidas, but the Nike program is much more limited. The good news is that the Adidas program accepts items for recycling from any brand — including Nike!

It’s always a pleasure for a minimalist to have just enough to get by every day. However, people, in general, are fashionable. They need to use varieties of clothes and accessories for enhanced life and like to live in luxury. The fashion designers come with creative designers and the world is flooded with enormous amounts of used, partially used, and at the time bought and never used stuff.

The earth is already polluted and this post is highly valuable in that respect, as it deals with recycling, ways of reusing and minimizing the wastes that may go to landfills,

It’s nice to know there are so many programs to handle the excesses, old nad newer one or even used.

We have a few high schoolers in my neighborhood, they come and collect old shoes. They plan on opening a business and repairing them to new ones! Great ides.

We had bins around the neighborhood to drop off shoes, clothes, etc. There are consignment stores close to my campus.to use.

Typically, I go to India often and used to carry my old stuff to donate to whoever needed them. But these days everyone seems to have more than what they need.

I like “For Days” from your description and will see if I can use them.

Hi Anusuya, I love that the teenagers near you are collecting old shoes to repair! It’s encouraging to know that the younger generation can see the value in these items and the benefits of keeping them out of landfills!

With over 100 million tons of textiles produced annually, an enormous quantity of clothing is being thrown away every year. A lot of clothing ends up in landfills or incinerators — either as garbage or burned into energy. Both options are problematic, harmful to the environment, and wasteful. I do my best to take care of my clothes and donate them to good charities. Thank you for sharing this post.

    • Alyce says:

Hi John, It’s great to know that there are places to send used textiles and shoes when they are beyond their usable life. Glad to hear that you enjoyed learning more about what to recycle and where to drop off old clothing for recycling!

    Hi

Thanks for sharing such an important and informative post about the best  rewards  programs. After reading your post it is very clear to me that we can get rewards to recycle our own clothes and shoes. It may be a good way to make some out money too. We all have some clothes and shoes those we don’t like to use. But it is very disturbing to keep them in our self. On the other hand if we through it out side it will pollute our environment. But reading your post I understood that we can recycle the old and get the new one. It is really very helpful for all. It will save our environment and also our storage space.

Thanks again. I’ll share this post with my friends and family.

This article is very good and interesting. Recycling the items we have already used for instance  clothes and shoes is very important especially for controlling environmental pollution. I am very happy to know that there are companies that give rewards to people who want to recycle their belongings.I knew a little bit about Levis, but I’m happy to see that there are many other companies doing the same. Thank you very much.

Holy crap, I had no idea these big brands did a recycling program. I guess it makes sense since eco-consciousness is trending these days.
I personally don’t buy a lot of clothes, and if I do it is only out of necessity. I always been a bit critical of people that buy clothes for just the sake of shopping, ending up with a closet full of clothes that are never worn, supporting toxic manufacturing processes that happen over seas.

It gives me great relief that companies are battling this tendency with programs like these!

Thanks for sharing! I know a few people that will need this as a resource.

    • Alyce says:

The fashion industry does create a lot of waste, but it’s great to know that there are a handful of brands that are also trying to help minimize any negative impact by offering great clothing recycling programs!

  9. Bonnie says:

Wow! What a great article. I had no idea companies were offering these benefits. I keep my clothing because I feel bad throwing it away just because I don’t want to wear it anymore. This is a great way to help the environment and clean up some of my storage space! I think my favorite is Nike, because no one would want the used shoes I have in storage. Thanks a lot!

    • Alyce says:

It is definitely nice to know that your old clothing items can be transformed and recycled into something that will continue to be useful!

  10. Willy says:

Wow! This is a really great opportunity to make few cash outside the monthly income. I have a lot of clothes and wears that aren’t good for me and my partner anymore and I think I have to try this out. I never knew there are a lot of earn reward programs like this that are ready to render few bucks for giving this clothing’s. Thanks for this helpful and informative review, those clothes occupying space at home are finally leaving.

Good article about getting rewards for recycling your clothes. As you mentioned, the fashion industry causes huge amount of pollution. Actually the fashion and make-up industry causes more co2 to the atmosphere than worldwide flying traffic and ships combined. The fashion industry also uses 20% of world water resources. It’s always nice to see people giving tips on how to recycle and even getting rewarded about it. That’s called win-win, the environment gets less pollution and people get some money while another gets clothes.

    • Alyce says:

I definitely agree — it’s always nice to see a relationship that is a win-win for everyone. Recycling clothing is a great way to minimize negative impacts from the clothing industry.

  12. Henderson says:

Oh my, I never thought about this honestly. I have a lot of Nike air Jordan I don’t wear anymore. No one to dash it out too and I just don’t know why I couldn’t dispose it. The fact that I can actually get money back from my unwanted clothes are really good. It’s a win for me,the company and also the environment too. I’m glad I can do my own part in helping the environment and still make money in the process. Thanks for this eye opener.

    • Alyce says:

Thank you for considering these recycling programs and helping to keep recyclable shoes and clothing items out of landfills!

  13. RoDarrick says:

I have tons of these kinds of clothing materials that I no longer wear that are wasting at home. I never knew these clothing stores give rewards for recycling clothes. Wow! This is a great way to stack up some extra bucks to supplement monthly income. Though it is only Zara that I know of within my area and I will check with them to know if they offer such service since you stated that it is only within selected stores. I really wish the one in my area is among the selected stores.

Thanks for your selfless service to humanity. God bless you
