I had no idea that the first Friday in June is National Doughnut Day. Although I occasionally enjoy a doughnut, I have a gluten intolerance which means that I have to be very careful as to where I buy a doughnut from. So do any of these places offer gluten free doughnuts?

Just from a health point of view, with the large percentage of Americans that are overweight and obese, should there not be a healthier option to celebrate, than with a sugary, calorie-filled doughnut?

    • Alyce says:

Hello! There are a growing number of places that offer fresh gluten-free donuts, plus there is a link above to an option to order gluten-free donuts by mail via Amazon!

There are “national days” for just about everything. Some of them are definitely healthier than others! 🤷‍♂️

  2. Joseph says:

This is a really cool article Alyce giving us some sweet offers for National Doughnut Day. I had no idea before reading your article that the first Friday of June every year was set aside to celebrate the sweet breakfast treat.

Just my two cents but it seems to take a little bit of the spirit out of National Doughnut Day for the business to require a consumer to join their rewards program in order to take advantage of the promotion, just seems a little greedy.

I will certainly be taking advantage of the Krispy Kreme deal, do you think any of the deal are better than that one?

    • Alyce says:

Hello, Joseph! The Krispy Kreme National Donut Day special is definitely one of the best deals for 2023! I hope you get a chance to take advantage of the offer this Friday on Donut Day!

  3. Johnny says:

    Hi Alyce,

I have never heard of National Doughnut Day up until now thanks to you! Doughnuts used to be my favorite treat but I just don’t have that sweet tooth anymore. Now there’s a whole variety to choose from. Krispykreme stands out for me in this article.

On top of that, I am amazed by the fact that they created this day to fund the soldiers. Thank you for sharing this with us.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Johnny, Donuts are definitely a sweet treat and it’s fun to see so many people get caught up in the excitement and fun celebrations for National Donut Day. I am planning to swing by my local Krispy Kreme for their free doughnut offer today… with any luck, I’ll be there just in time to get one while it’s hot! 🙂

  4. John says:

For those who love donuts, it’s time to celebrate with donuts! Donut Day is celebrated every year on June 1st. Some people may think there isn’t such thing as a national donut holiday, but in fact, National Donut Day is an official holiday recognized by the U.S. government. You can go to the website to get more information about this event. I’ll admit that the amazing taste of hot glazed doughnuts from Krispy Kreme sounds like quite a delicious treat! Yum!!

    • Alyce says:

Hey John, I’ve got good news for your Friday –> National Donut Day is actually not on June 1st each year, rather it is on the 1st Friday of June each year!

This means that you still have time to enjoy all the great National Donut Day offers happening tomorrow, Friday, June 3, 2022!

I love doughnuts even though I have never heard of world doughnuts day. I can see that the world doughnuts day supports our soldiers which is a great idea because they need all the support they can get especially in those days when war is everywhere. (Ukraine, Middle East etc.) It is also a great idea that the bakeries are getting lots of business on that day which will help them also.

I have to say that Krispy Kreme is my favourite.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Elke, Thanks for sharing! It’s so nice to get one of the fresh glazed Krispy Kreme doughnuts when they are hot off of the line! I hope you’re able to take advantage of the great free offers this year, including the doughnut day offers at Krispy Kreme.

A very delicious topic to me. I consider eating food purely a cultural thing. Your article shows me a wonderful marketing strategy. So I really delighted to read this article because the concept that you use to introduce various doughnuts is very nice.

I personally love doughnuts but I didn’t have an idea this much about the variety of doughnuts in the market. Your sweet article brought me all the details about the food fully.

    thanks, sharing.

    • Alyce says:

When I was growing up, I’d never heard of full days (or months in some cases) being dedicated to certain foods like doughnuts. However, it seems that marketers have figured out that it’s a fun way to celebrate and promote some fun, so it’s pretty common now to see annual celebrations for doughnuts, coffee, pancakes, ice cream, and even burritos!

No matter what, it’s always nice to get a free doughnut, so I approve of all the sweet celebrations and donut-themed promotions! Enjoy!!

  7. Bethel says:

Wow, I have never heard of dounut day before.  You did well in putting all these dounut brands with sweet offers together. I am not in the United States of America,  I would have loved to witness dounut day this year with all these amazing offers. I really enjoyed reading this hilarious yet informative article. Thank you for sharing.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Bethel, Americans definitely enjoy their doughnuts – enough to dedicate a day to the doughy treats! I’m glad to hear that our nationwide sweet tooth has given you a chuckle. If you’re ever in the US on doughnut day, I hope you are able to join in on the fun!

  8. Baki says:

I have been once in the USA- summer of 2016, and I had luck to experience the National Doughnut Day. Dunkin’ Donuts is my top choice from the list. It is also the most popular here in Europe. I loved your article since it has a great breakdown of doughnut places to visit during NDD. I think that many Americans will find the article helpful.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Baki, Dunkin’ Donuts is one of the biggest chains in the US as well, and has a lot of raving fans from coast to coast! It’s even better on special occasions like National Doughnut Day where there are great deals on these sweet favorites!

Hi Alyce, thank your for sharing this.  Maybe we are going to start promoting International Doughnut Day 🙂 – I never new that there are a lot of variety of doughnut available in America, and you have the gluten-free doughnut, amazing!!

We did have Dunkin’ Doughnut for a while here in Sweden, and last year they decided to close all their shops, and start selling their doughnut through gas station store, but now we can not find them anymore.  We love Dunkin’ Doughnut !!

    Happy National Doughnut Day Alyce

Laugh out loud. National doughnut day, I am sure all the cops are going to have a field day because they are the kings of the doughnuts. I am sure it’s going to be a fun field day too. I am a lover of doughnuts, of course it’s my preferred snack any day anywhere, let’s see how the celebrations goes this year with this corona virus pandemic which has put everything else around the world in slow motion. Hopefully it gets better before the end of the month.

    • Alyce says:

It’s hard for anyone to pass up a great doughnut — especially one of the free or discounted doughnuts offered on the very, very serious holiday, National Doughnut Day. 🙂

  12. Isabelle says:

I never thought there was a National holiday for Donuts, unfortunately there is no such thing in my country. although I found this article very interesting and helpful especially the section about gluten-free doughnuts. This is quite interesting for someone like me who enjoys eating donuts. Do you a website where I can order donuts online and still get some free?

    • Alyce says:

Hi Isabelle, without knowing where you are from, it’s hard to know what you will be able to order locally. Check with the largest chains (at the top of the article) first, as these larger doughnut chains may also have locations open in your country.

  13. Nicole says:

I’m glad that you included gluten free donuts on here as well. I have loved donuts forever. Krispy Kreme was a staple of my childhood.  But recently I feel that gluten does not mix well with my system. I want to be able to participate in this great holiday too.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Nicole, There are a lot of doughnut lovers out there who are on strict gluten-free diets, so it’s been great to find so many gluten-free doughnut options available!

  14. Imelda says:

I had never thought there was such a thing as National Dough Nut Day and found it really interested to see how many different companies in the USA there are specialising in Doughnuts. As a result of this article I did a little research for the UK and to my surprise realised that we celebrate in May and it is usually for 1 week and we raise a lot of money for charity. Unfortunately, it was cancelled this year due to Covid-19 but dates are being planned for next year.

As a health enthusiast it is really good to see people supplying gluten free options.

Enjoy doughnut day I hope it will be fun.

  15. Lorenz Valdez says:

Aloha and thank you for sharing this great reminder for the end of the week.

I had no idea it was National doughnut day, but I do know I will be going to dunkin doughnuts.

Here in Hawaii, Maui is the only island with Krispy Kreme, I am here on Oahu so I might even ask someone flying in from Maui if they can bring some hehe.

I doubt it though because of COVID still lingering.

All the other doughnut shops mentioned we DO-nut have here in hawaii as well, just Dunkin Doughnuts.

    Thanks again.
